First teased earlier this year, the camera-free glasses focus on AI smarts and audio
Solos has announced that its AirGo A5 smart glasses, first revealed earlier this summer, are now officially available to buy.
The fifth generation of Solos’ AI-powered eyewear continues the line’s focus on delivering discreet, voice-controlled smart features. Instead of a camera, like the one housed in the brand’s AirGo V (and upcoming AirGo V2), the $249 A5 frames more closely align with the minimalist look of traditional eyewear.
In addition to offering a more pared-back alternative to its Solos siblings, the A5 also presents a stark contrast to the recently announced glasses from EssilorLuxottica and Meta, such as the Ray-Ban Display and Oakley Vanguard.
Instead, again, the core experience revolves around voice interaction. Users can access SolosChat (powered by ChatGPT) for on-demand information and assistance and use the new SolosTranslate platform for real-time, hands-free language translation in up to 25 languages—all without needing to pull out their phone.
This generation features an ultra-lightweight design engineered for all-day comfort, utilizing the brand’s SmartHinge modular system. This allows users to easily swap different frame fronts onto the smart temples for a personalized fit and style, and is compatible with existing Solos AirGo 3 frames.
Solos has also upgraded the audio experience with enhanced directional speakers that minimize sound leakage, improving clarity and bass for music and calls.
For existing Solos users, the A5 smart temples are available as a separate upgrade kit for $174.
On paper, it’s a compelling package for those seeking AI-powered assistance and audio features in a discreet, camera-free form factor. We’ve yet to be blown away by the brand’s array of smart glasses, so here’s hoping its latest can prove to be its most polished.
