The feature arrives a monthly subscription add-on for its smart ring users
Smart ring maker Ultrahuman is launching a major new feature focused on respiratory health, partnering with sleep tracking giant Sleep Cycle to detect snoring and coughing via the Ultrahuman Ring Air.
The new feature, dubbed the Respiratory Health PowerPlug, is available starting today. It combines the biomarkers captured by the ring—such as heart rate variability (HRV), movement, and resting heart rate—with audio data captured by the user’s smartphone microphone.
Why it matters
Ultrahuman frames this not just as a way to settle arguments about who snores more, but as a serious health screening tool. The company notes that habitual snorers face a 46% higher risk of stroke and that one-third of regular snorers may suffer from undiagnosed obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
By fusing audio analysis with biometric data, the system can correlate respiratory events with physiological stress. For example, the app can show if a bout of heavy snoring coincided with a drop in HRV or a spike in heart rate, helping users understand if their breathing is actively fragmenting their sleep and impairing recovery.
Privacy and cost
To address privacy concerns, Ultrahuman also states that all audio processing occurs locally on the user’s device. No sound files are uploaded to the cloud, and users can delete recordings at any time.
However, unlike many of the ring’s core features, this advanced analysis is not free.
The Respiratory Health PowerPlug is a paid add-on costing $3.99/£2.99 per month (roughly $40/£30 per year).
The feature is rolling out now to users via a waitlist in the Ultrahuman app.
