A recent update fixed their biggest flaw, making them an even better deal for athletes
If you’re looking for a pair of premium sports earbuds with built-in fitness tracking, a new deal on Amazon has dropped the Beats Powerbeats Pro 2 to just $199.95. This represents a significant saving on the typical $250 asking price for the Apple-owned brand’s latest buds.
While the recent launch of the AirPods Pro 3 has brought heart rate tracking to Apple’s mainline earbuds, the Powerbeats Pro 2 remain a compelling option at this discounted price.
What we found when testing the Powerbeats Pro 2
The biggest strength of the Powerbeats Pro 2—especially when compared to AirPods—is the hooked design.
As we noted in our full Powerbeats Pro 2 review, the secure ear hook fit is outstanding for running, HIIT, and gym work, especially when smaller, in-ear buds might struggle to stay in place. This is backed by excellent, bassy audio quality powered by Apple’s H2 chip and a superb 10-hour battery life from the earbuds alone, making them a true workout workhorse.
When we first tested the earbuds, we found the heart rate tracking to be accurate but inconsistent—and we were frustrated by the clunky experience on iOS that lacked native app support.
However, a significant software update released last week has addressed many of its outstanding issues, introducing full, seamless integration with Apple’s native Fitness app and aligning the experience with the new AirPods. For Android users, the Powerbeats have always offered more flexibility, as they connect as a standard Bluetooth heart rate monitor to popular apps like Strava.
For under $200, you’re getting a pair of premium sports earbuds with a super-secure fit, great sound, long battery life, and now, a properly integrated and accurate heart rate monitor—a fantastic deal for any athlete.
