The latest flagship outdoor watch from the Zepp Health brand arrives at $549
Amazfit has officially announced the T‑Rex Ultra 2—the much-leaked rugged outdoor smartwatch—with a focus on a major improvement in battery life.
The capacity has jumped by 74% from the 500 mAh cell in the original T-Rex Ultra to 870 mAh, with the Zepp Health brand suggesting that this should provide users with 30 days of typical use and over 50 hours of continuous GPS tracking.
And while nearly double the battery capacity, the watch maintains a similar weight profile of 89.2g, thanks to a new Grade‑5 Titanium build that replaces the stainless steel of the 2023 model.
The display has also been upgraded for improved outdoor visibility. The Ultra 2 features a 1.5‑inch AMOLED screen protected by tough sapphire glass, now boasting a peak brightness of 3,000 nits—similar to that of the Apple Watch Ultra 3, for context. That’s also three times brighter than before, and should ensure greater clarity even in bright sun or harsh glare.
Internal improvements
Storage has also been expanded, with the Ultra 2 now offering 64 GB of onboard memory, a huge leap from the previous model’s 4 GB. This allows for pre-installed topographic offline maps and turn-by-turn navigation. The watch also supports six simultaneous satellite systems, and the company notes that it can distinguish between paved and unpaved trails.
A neat addition we loved on last year’s T-Rex 3 Pro, the Ultra 2 now also features an integrated dual‑mode LED flashlight with 200- and 300-lux settings, plus an SOS mode, replacing the old screen-based light. A nice addition for European users is NFC payment support, too, making it more practical for daily use.
Like other T-Rex models, the Ultra 2 should also be adept at handling extreme climates, with the brand indicating it can operate in temperatures as low as ‑30°C. It also features 10 ATM water resistance, suitable for freediving and high-speed water sports.
The Ultra 2 is priced at and $549.90/£549.99, and we’ll be testing it out over the coming few weeks to see how it compares to other flagships, such as the Garmin Fenix 8.
