The new 'Deep Blue' finish signals EssilorLuxottica’s bid for the widest, best-looking smart eyewear lineup
EssilorLuxottica’s Nuance Audio smart glasses are now available in a Deep Blue finish, complementing the existing Black and Burgundy options across both Square and Panthos styles.
The frames double as an FDA-cleared aid for mild to moderate hearing loss, featuring six tuned speakers and Nuance’s directional ‘Beam’ audio, which focuses sound toward the wearer for clearer conversations and entertainment.
The project’s ambitions have been clear since its debut at CES last year, where we first demoed Nuance’s hearing aid glasses. And the new colourway arrives as the brand leans into everyday design with lighter materials, balanced weight, and day-long comfort—all while keeping the hearing tech discreet.
It’s the first significant development from Nuance since its frames secured FDA clearance in the US earlier this year, a key step that enabled them to be sold on shelves and over-the-counter alongside regular prescription options.
The Deep Blue editions are available now, starting from $1,200/£1,200.
A style update that signals a bigger bet
A new colorway, admittedly, isn’t as significant as new-gen hardware upgrades. Yet, it does underscore EssilorLuxottica (and Nuance’s) bid to build the broadest line of mainstream-looking smart eyewear.
And the timing makes sense: the smart-glasses industry is heating up from a style perspective, with EL’s other brands—Oakley and Ray-Ban—both working with Meta to deliver varied new versions in the last couple of months.
Apple’s move to push AirPods Pro models towards regulatory-approved hearing-aid functionality also shows how fast consumer hearing tech is evolving.
Nuance’s glasses may not be as mainstream as EL’s other products or Apple’s earbuds, but this latest move shows that it continues to make strides in its niche market.
